Rap Music: History and Genres

Those that are young or comparatively new to the HipHop culture do not realize that Rap Music has many alternative genres :

East Coast :

The East Coast, most significantly New York, was the genesis for rap music hitting the conventional. Run-D.M.C. Led the pack, with Rakim and Giant Father Kane also breaking thru to make rap appear as a state phenomenon. Unclean South : While almost all of the music world’s attention concentrated on rap coming from Big Apple and LA, HipHop artists in the South were turning to independent music labels to release their work. Gangsta Rap : Some say Gangsta Rap first appeared on the West Coast with N.W.A.’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’ release, while others credit Ice T with taking Gangsta Rap to state commend.

The Fresh Prince and MC Hammer quickly rose to the apex of the Pop Rap scene and the music charts with words that were less arguable than those of the Gangsta Rap class, and therefore were more certain to receive radio airplay. Christian Rap took off in the latter 1980s and early 1990s with rap groups like P.I.D. And S.F.C. Jazz Rap : though Jazz Rap hasn’t enjoyed main line business success, the brand frequently incorporates Afrocentric and political themes. Gang Starr and Gil Scott-Heron are sometimes cited as 2 of the first Jazz rappers. Conscious HipHop : like Jazz Rap, Conscious HipHop hasn’t enjoyed mass business success.

With the focus on societal issues, Conscious HipHop isn’t brazenly political, but instead deals with issues like misery and faith. By the mid-1990s, Electro HipHop had just about terminated. Rap Music is still going strong!
